SVTOA On Track Heartland Park 2003

Yes that is me!  Bryan Appleby let me drive his 427 Cobra, 610 hp.  What a rush.  No power brakes, Jerico, small disc clutch, and that much hp was a lot to take in all at once.  I was happy just to get it out of the pits without killing the car.  I must say I love the Jerico, a little breath of the throttle and shift.  The suspension was like nothing I have ever driven.  It seemed like the car would turn as soon as you thought about turning.  Very precise.  Heartland Park is a rough track and non of the bumps upset the car, you couldn't even feel them.  I though the car would be tricky to drive but as long as you stayed away from the gas it was very controllable.  It would do anything you wanted it to do.  Although when you started to add in the power the car was a handful.  If you weren't smooth with the throttle the car would brake the tires loose in any gear.  All I can say is FAST, and that doesn't even begin to describe it.  Taking it easy I could do close to 150 mph on the straight.  30 mph faster than Jennifer's 01 Cobra.  I could do between 130 and 140 on the two short straights.  It was an unbelievable experience and I can't thank Bryan enough.

Other than that we had a great weekend.  Beautiful weather and a great group of people.  Jennifer drove both days after I had to align her car with a tape measure.  We took the car to Ford a couple of weeks ago because the rear tie rod was frozen solid and we couldn't get the car aligned.  They said they replaced the part and aligned the car.  The car dove straight when we picked it up so I didn't think anything about it.  When we got to Topeka the car darted wildly on the rough track.  I got out the toe plates and the rear end had 3/4 inch toe in.  What kind of an alignment is that?  To make it worse we had just put on new tires that are dam near ruined thanks to Ford.  I will be having a talk with the service manger on Monday.  By the way it was Prestige Ford in Edmond.

After I got the car driving OK Jennifer had a great time.  She is really learning fast.  The last session she passed everyone in her group except one.  And she was on his but when the checked came out.
